Indy 500
Yesterday, Jason and I added another item to our resume of being true Hoosiers. We attended the Indianapolis 500! It was quite an experience to say the least. We left Lafayette for the hour drive at 7:30 in the morning. Two hours and $20 later, we were parked in someone's front yard, just 5 blocks from the track. I think we were both impressed on the time we made. We made it to our seats about 11:00 and then the waiting began. We quickly realized how wonderful our seats were. We were on the top row (seriously, the top row!) and could see all of turns three and four as well as part of the front straight away.
Here is a view of the fourth turn, and part of the 500,000 people in attendance!
Are we good looking or what?!
At lap 113, it started to rain and didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. We headed for the car, and actually didn't get too wet. After we were at home and dry, they did restart the race and made it to lap 165 before finally calling it. While it wasn't my favorite thing to attend, I did enjoy it. My day will be on Sunday when I see the Cubs play the Braves!!!! Can't wait!!!!

Birthday Girl
Yay! My design from Susie is done. I love it! I still have some work to do to make it my own, but this is a start.
So yesterday was my birthday. Only 24, nothing too special. A couple of my students made me cards. Jason came home with a pink rose and my cards. He is also getting the next TEN seasons of 7th Heaven for me on DVD. I can't wait!!! That should fill up my summer pretty good.
We went out to dinner last night with David and Cathy. I wanted to go somewhere I'd never been before. We ended up at Chumley's here in Lafayette. It was okay... glad I tried something new. Then, we rented Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and watched it at their house. Hopefully today Jason and I will go see Pirates of the Caribbean 3.

Here I am!!!
Yay! I'm a blogger :)
My mother-in-law decided to get a blog design for me for my birthday. It couldn't be a more perfect gift. Jason's cousin, Jenn, has a blog and it's really a lot of fun to read. Especially since she lives in Colorado.
So here I go at this...
It took me a little while to decide on a title. Finally, came up with "Lessons Learned." I guess the most obvious reason for that comes from the fact that I am a teacher. Teaching is my passion. I can't imagine myself in another career. As with anyone and their job, I do have those days when I question the wisdom behind my career choice. But the next day, as long as I go in with a smile on my face, I have 23 faces smiling back at me, glad to see me, and full of energy that is contagious. Then I'm positive I'm where I'm meant to be.
The other, and perhaps more significant, reason for the title is how I'm trying to look at my past. It's not a secret to many people that I had an unpleasant childhood for many reasons. Just recently have I began to face it and heal from it. Instead of being angry, hateful, and sad, I'm trying to find the positives that have come out of this uphill battle. Some days its tough and the memories flood in, but I know I'm a strong, determined person because of my experiences.
